The expansion of economic cooperation between ASEAN and Qatar is poised to significantly boost trade, which is nearing the $15 billion mark annually. This deepening partnership is opening up a wealth of opportunities in diverse sectors such as energy, aviation, healthcare, agribusiness, telecommunications, and digital technology, promising substantial economic benefits for both regions.
This enhanced collaboration follows Qatar’s formal engagement as an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner in 2026, an evolution from its earlier accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in 2022. With this strengthened relationship, ASEAN and Qatar have been increasing their cooperation in key areas including energy, investment, education, connectivity, humanitarian assistance, and sustainable development, facilitated by a series of high-level exchanges.
For Qatar, ASEAN represents a robust market with its population exceeding 680 million and an economy valued at approximately $3.9 trillion. Both regions are keenly exploring innovations in renewable energy, green technology, sustainable infrastructure, and smart city developments, aligning with global trends towards digital transformation and environmental sustainability.
The ASEAN Committee in Doha has expressed its commitment to further foster stronger business ties, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people connections. This effort aims to enhance practical cooperation between ASEAN member states and Qatar, thereby promoting mutual growth and development in the region.
