Qatar has expressed its approval of the recent decisions by the Netherlands and Belgium to prohibit imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements. This move is seen as a significant advancement in addressing settlement activities within the occupied Palestinian territories.
According to a statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these import bans align with international efforts to deter further settlement expansion, which the ministry argues contravenes international law as well as United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334. The ministry’s statement underscores the importance of halting these activities, which are viewed as a major roadblock to peace.
The Qatari government has voiced hope that additional countries will implement similar measures, urging the global community to meet its legal and moral obligations. Specifically, Qatar calls on international actors to press Israel to cease settlement activities in the occupied regions, which have long been a contentious issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
