Indian Minister Highlights Tech Collaboration, Honors Qatar’s Father Amir for Innovation

In a gesture of solidarity and respect, Indian Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju traveled to Doha to express India’s condolences on the passing of Qatar’s Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. This visit serves to reinforce the enduring and robust ties between India and Qatar.

During his visit, Rijiju had an audience with Qatar’s current Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, where he conveyed heartfelt condolences from the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The late Father Amir was hailed by Rijiju as a visionary leader who significantly contributed to Qatar’s progress and the strengthening of its strategic alliance with India. He noted that the Indian community in Qatar holds the Father Amir in high regard, deeply mourning his loss while remembering his impactful contributions.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier paid homage to the Father Amir, recognizing him as a genuine friend of India and acknowledging his efforts in fostering closer bilateral relations between the two nations. Modi’s tribute highlighted the mutual respect and cooperation that have characterized India-Qatar relations over the years.

In a mark of respect and mourning, India observed a national day of mourning on July 13, 2026. During this period, the national flag was flown at half-mast on government buildings, and official entertainment activities were suspended. This solemn observance underlined the importance India places on its relationship with Qatar and the respect it holds for the Father Amir’s legacy.

The visit by Minister Rijiju underscores the deep diplomatic relationship between the two countries, emphasizing the value both India and Qatar place on their historic partnership.
