Qatar is urging for enhanced global cooperation to expedite sustainable development and support the UN 2030 Agenda. During a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative in New York, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, emphasized the critical challenges facing developing countries, including financial constraints, debt pressures, food insecurity, climate change, energy shortages, and the digital divide.
The minister underscored that sustainable and inclusive development is vital for achieving long-term peace, stability, and prosperity. Qatar called for increased international efforts to bridge the development financing gap and boost resources for developing nations, particularly the least developed. Furthermore, stronger commitments to development finance, climate action, and reforms in the international financial system are necessary to better support these countries in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.
Highlighting the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, Al Misnad warned that unequal access to these resources could exacerbate existing disparities. She advocated for enhanced cooperation in technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and digital skills development to ensure equitable progress.
Qatar reaffirmed its dedication to sustainable development through its National Vision 2030 and its international partnerships. The country also highlighted its initiatives to support poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and resilience in vulnerable regions.
