Audrey Werro showcased her dominance in the women’s 800m at the Ultimate Championships in Budapest, capturing the $150,000 first prize. The 22-year-old Swiss athlete clocked an impressive 1:55.88, outpacing Britain’s Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, who finished second with a time of 1:56.26. Femke Broeders-Bol secured third place. Werro asserted her lead early on and maintained it, accelerating decisively over the final 300 meters. This victory marks the culmination of a remarkable season for Werro, who has triumphed in 14 out of her 15 outdoor races, cementing her status as one of the top 800m runners worldwide.
Keely Hodgkinson expressed pride in her performance, having battled through injuries this season. Her return to form comes after overcoming a hamstring injury, which had hindered her ability to complete the speed training necessary to challenge Werro effectively.
In earlier events, Georgia Hunter Bell placed second in the women’s 1500m, trailing Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska. Kazimierska took the win with a time of 3:57.55, narrowly ahead of Hunter Bell by 0.15 seconds. Hunter Bell’s strong season, highlighted by major championship victories, earned her a $75,000 prize for her second-place finish.
The women’s 100m race also delivered a standout performance. World champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden clinched victory with a time of 10.62 seconds, marking the fastest time globally this year. Olympic champion Julien Alfred followed closely in 10.74 seconds, with Sha’Carri Richardson taking third at 10.76 seconds.
