Qatar has reasserted its backing for a two-state solution as the cornerstone for achieving enduring peace in the Middle East. During a high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution at the UN General Assembly in New York, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, underscored the necessity of adhering to international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
Qatar advocates for the creation of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, existing peacefully alongside Israel. Doha also urged nations that have not yet recognized Palestine to take that step. Al Khulaifi cautioned that ongoing settlement expansions, land confiscations, settler violence, and actions affecting the status of religious sites in the West Bank could jeopardize the viability of a two-state solution.
Highlighting the current conflict in Gaza, Al Khulaifi emphasized that the ensuing humanitarian crisis poses a significant threat to regional stability and hinders efforts toward a political resolution. Qatar continues to engage in diplomatic efforts, alongside countries like Egypt, the United States, and Türkiye, to support ceasefire and peace initiatives.
Additionally, Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians and participating in international efforts to improve conditions in Gaza. The country remains focused on contributing to a lasting political solution that addresses the core issues of the conflict.
