Qatar has participated in a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting focused on enhancing regional cooperation in social development, held in Bahrain. The meeting, attended by Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, aimed to bolster collaboration among GCC member states on social welfare, family support, and community development.
During the meeting, officials concentrated on improving coordination, sharing expertise, and developing joint initiatives to tackle social challenges across the region. A key component of the discussions was the 2026–2030 work plan, which outlines strategies for implementing existing Gulf-wide decisions and adapting regional initiatives to meet evolving community needs.
Among the primary topics addressed were disability rights, including the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and a proposal to create a regular Gulf forum for disability-related issues. The impact of artificial intelligence on children’s rights was also discussed, with ministers examining both opportunities and challenges associated with emerging technologies. Plans for a regional report on children’s rights and their future in GCC countries were also on the agenda.
The meeting further explored strengthening cooperation on women’s issues and considering new initiatives to advance social development throughout the Gulf region. Additionally, the ministers exchanged views on childhood protection and welfare, emphasizing the need for enhanced coordination in these areas.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Al Nuaimi attended a 2026 ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions in civil social work, where several Qatari individuals and initiatives were acknowledged for their achievements.
